A Wedding at The Maxwell

The Setting

Imani and D’Andre were married The Maxwell and it was the next to last place they toured when they decided to seriously start looking at venues. They fell in love with the place, and I so get it!

Imani shared: “As soon as we saw it we knew it was the venue for us. The location was perfect as Raleigh is a central location for our friends and loved ones. It had a modern feel with the white brick architecture and natural lighting. We loved that we could get beautiful shots inside AND outside with a patio and lawn space for portraits. The space was a blank canvas so it gave us the freedomto choose any theme or color scheme that we desired. The staff made us feel like family and we were blown away at how many opportunities we had to see the venue in action before our big day. One of the easiest decisions we made during wedding planning!”

As a photographer, I love the variety of spaces inside and out to capture shots, as well as the textures, and monochromatic background. At The Maxwell, you have an elegant blank slate to decorate as you wish. This darling couple chose rust colors not only for their attire and decor, but made use of the lighting and lighting option to make this place their own.

But before that ….. The Engagement Session

These two met in college while at NC State, shared the same major and concentration, were in the same living and learning residence, and couldn’t wait to share their days with each other. When a relationship starts with friendship and genuine interest, it can lead to love. For these two, it absolutely did. While they said there was not a moment when “they knew;” they were always excited to be together and to download the details of their lives.

For their beautiful engagement session, we took advantage of the Duke Gardens. I love this spot in Durham. It has lots of elements, fountains, paths and botanical gardens to showcase when photographing. Imani and D’Andre were so happy and it shows in their photos.

Preparations on The Big Day

First Looks with Dad and Hubby-to-Be

I love a first look moment, and Imani had two. Both contained laughter, awe, and tenderness. D’Andre’s suit was custom made and he looked amazing. They took turns reading their vows and special notes to each other.

The Ceremony

The rust colored backdrop for the altar, wood chairs with cream cushions, and gorgeous florals made the ceremony space feel lush and warm and inviting. I looked the team at Faux Real Flowers and what they created. They knocked it out of the park. With the bronze, white, cream and natural lighting, the space was a garden.

The Details & Party

One great detail on this day was that the bride and groom shared that they had already gotten married before the ceremony. In fact, they had already been married for one year. This wedding really was their celebration.

Congratulations & Send-Off

A quick change of clothes, sparklers and cheers sent these two on their way.
